Getting Started

This page will give you an idea of what is needed to get your website up and running.

What you will need.

  • Domain Name Registration

A domain name is an Internet address used on the World Wide Web to locate your website. Fees may vary for different extensions (.com, .net, etc.) and discounts may apply for multiple years. I recommend using GoDaddy.com, they are reliable, affordable and have decent customer service.

    $12 - $35/year
  • Web Hosting

Web hosting is your very own piece of the internet. The more content/media heavy the project, the larger amount of space you will need to rent. Again, I would recommend using Go Daddy to purchase your hosting as well as your domain name.

    $5 - $35/month
  • Web Design & Development

This is where I come in! Fees vary for different types of websites (informational, content rich, e-commerce etc). For more information on pricing please see my rates page.

    $700 - $2000
  • Content/Creative Brief

This is a very important piece of your web project as I will NOT create/write content for you. When starting your project I will need everything prepared. Hiring a professional writer is a logical, time-saving and cost effective solution. I recommend Eric Nixon Writing Services if you do not have content prepared and need some help getting started.

    $0 - $500

  • Before diving into your web project I will need a few things from you, I usually start off with this short questionnaire to get the ball rolling. It is a good idea to start thinking about your answers to these questions before starting your project.

  • Q: Please list the names of five other sites that you like. Why are they attractive to you?

Q: Please list the names of three logos that you like. Why are they attractive to you?

Q: Please provide a brief description of yourself appearing as you would like to appear in Google.

Q: If you were using a search engine, what words or phrases would you use to find your site? Which of these words or phrases is most important?

Q: Name 3 things that are most important about the design of your new website

Q: Any specific features you would like included? (ie: image slider, twitter feed, contact form etc.)

Q: Do you have any colour preferences, or existing brand colours?

Q: Do you have any colours that you do not wish to use?

Q: When do you need the website completed by?

Then What?

STEP 1: Concept Development

Both the client & I, decide on the most important aspects of the project such as site purpose, site content, and the fulfillment of the company's or organization's image through graphic design.

STEP 2: Content Structure Development

Now it is decided how the content of the site should be organized into appropriate sections and what advanced structures should supplement the site (for example, search function, interactive forms).

STEP 3: Site Creation

The actual web site is created. All websites will be fitted with Google Analytics so the client can track visitors.

STEP 4: Site Beta Testing

The site is scrupulously tested on different browsers and screen resolutions. All scripts and HTML is tested and debugged to ensure compliance with the existing standards. Finally, the site is made accessible to our customer for user testing.

STEP 5: Site Launch

In this step the site is officially launched on the Internet and once again thoroughly tested.

STEP 6: Site Promotion

The site is submitted to search engines and directories. If necessary I can assist with additional marketing solutions for further site promotion.

STEP 7: Site Maintenance

Here we decide on proper maintenance strategy based on clients' needs and statistical analysis of the site. Maintaining the site is important to ensure that the information on the site is correct and up-to-date. Fresh content also helps keep your website upfront on Google.
